We have
developed a series of ponds to make the Centre as
environmentally-friendly as possible.
The ponds provide a calm, reflective space in the
landscape and also provide an ecologically sound way to process the grey water
from the house and centre. Grey water from the Matara Centre is taken to the
highest pond, beyond the hedge near the house. Filtration is done through
gravels and reeds, and emerges into the second pond below as clean water.
The final pond is an overflow which then fills a
stream running into the Eastern Woodlands, and is then pumped back into the top
pond.
